Davidson announces 2008-09 schedule

Davidson released its 2008-2009 basketball schedule today, and a challenging nonconference portion will force the Wildcats to start fast.

Coach Bob McKillop's team, which reached the NCAA tournament's Elite Eight last season, opens the season in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament. The Wildcats will play James Madison in the first round Nov. 17 in Norman, Okla.

The way the tournament is now aligned, Davidson will play four games no matter the outcome. The Wildcats will face either Oklahoma or Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 18, with two as-yet-to-be determined contests the following weekend.

Davidson will also meet Winthrop in its home opener at Belk Arena on Nov. 21.

The Wildcats will play host to N.C. State at Time Warner Cable Arena on Dec.
6, and will travel to New York for the Jimmy V Basketball Classic, where it will meet West Virginia in the first round on Dec. 9. The Wildcats also play in the Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis, meeting.

"The challenges of last year’s schedule were instrumental in preparing us for our magical run at the end of the season," McKillop said in a statement that coincided with the schedule's release. "Our aim in creating this year’s schedule was to present ourselves with similar challenges, and I think we have accomplished that."

The Wildcats will open Southern Conference play with a home game against Chattanooga on Dec. 13. Davidson returns 11 lettermen, including four of its top six scorers from last season.

NC State at TIME WARNER ARENA? You guys couldn't even fill half that place up when you played DUKE.

yep another davidson hater. i bet no one was pulling for them in the tournament either. don't worry you won't be at the game. the davidson crowd is probably a little out of your league.

don't see the tarheels, must be back to the dean smith philosophy of playing as many easy teams as possible.

Davidson is not going to be very good this year honestly. They just got hot last year, but don't look for the same magic this season.

Davidson = back to their old magic this year. Still got stephy but missing jritch is going to effect them more than they think it will.

Oh yeah, and the pansies wouldnt just say they didnt want to play Charlotte again this year - I guess the 26-10 record (including last year) was just too much for the "big elite 8 team" to risk.

Best of luck this year - can't wait to get back to destroying you again in 2 years.

1)Davidson had the largest basketball crowd in Bobcats Arena history against UNC and had about 15,000 against Duke (which has a smaller fan base then State)
2)They are playing 4 top-25 teams out of conference, doesnt seem to easy to me.
3)Stephen Curry is the best player in the NCAA, they'll be in the Sweet 16 at least.
4)Davidson would beat Charlotte by 20+ this year, its hard to fit a team that finishes in the bottom half of the A-14 into a tough non-conference schedule like Davidson has this year.
